5th-7th Elective Reading Form
  • cathylincathylin June 2011
    5th & 6th grade:
Create a summary in graphic novel form for ONE of the three elective books you read. Fold a paper into eight sections, and draw the events of the novel, adding captions to describe each illustration. You must include the entire, main points of the plot and incorporate the ending. Of course, your name must be on the paper. Turn in your graphic novel summary to your advisor on the first day of school.

    7th grade:
Create a graphic novel summary for TWO of the four elective books you read. Make sure your name is on the paper and turn it into your advisor on the first day of school.

    Hi Ms. Lin,
I was wondering...Does the graphic novel have to be colored? And it should be outlined...right?
    Thanks,

    Hi MacLean,

Unless you're in 8th grade, there is no reading form that you can find, print or download.

Read the above carefully, it'll tell you what you need to complete for your elective reading form (this applies for grades 5-7).

Basically you need to fold a piece of paper into 8 sections and summarize the main points of the book using illustrations and captions that describe each frame. It's being referred to as the Graphic Novel summary. It does not require you to go out and read a graphic novel :)

Our incoming 6th graders have been asking about using the back side and whether you can use more than 8 panels, whether the summary can be in color/black and white, and if the summary can include dialogue (speech bubbles). You can read the responses by following this link: (you'll need to scroll down a little to about July 8th)

If you still have questions feel free to ask for more clarification.

Enjoy your last few weeks of vacation.

    Best,
    Ms. Lin
