The book Chains is about the life of a slave girl during the independence war. After her owner passed away, and she is placed with a harsh couple along with her sister, her life becomes much harder. When their owner passes away, they don’t only lose the so called freedom that they had but every hope of being free one they disappears well. When Isabel’s sister goes missing, she is approached by another slave to spy on her new owner. In order to help the revolutionaries defeat the British she decides to help the side that would aid hers and her sister’s freedom. Even though she feels guilty for doing so, she acts upon it, in order to free her sister and her own self. I liked this novel because it gave me an idea of how life was in time of war and more importantly I learned about how United States won their freedom.
