War Turns Men Into Animals (page 174)

    "Sure, lots of them would steal from anybody, whether they were Tories or Patriots or anything else... I've done it myself."
    "Sam."
    "I won't apologize."
    "War turns men into animals," Mother said.
    "I was ashamed of it afterwards," Sam said, "but not
    very and my belly was full."


    I chose a random page after I read the book to choose the above passage.
    I don't blame Sam for stealing meat. He was starving. Stealing is never the right thing to do, but if I were starving, I would also do it. After I stole, I would have felt the same way as Sam; sorry but mostly happy that I had a full belly. Mother was right too. War changes men. ~ Henry S

    I agree with you Henry, it wasn't wrong for Sam to steal. He was going to die. I think Sam should not have stolen, but he finally ate.
