pg. 208 The Death of Sam Meeker
  • ccruz August 2011
"He hit the ground on his belly and flopped over on his back. He wasn't dead yet. He lay there shaking and thrashing about, his knees jerking up and down. They had shot him from so close that his clothes were on fire. He went on jerking with flames on his chest until another soldier shot him again. Then he stopped jerking."

I really feel bad for Tim because it must have been terrible to watch his brother's death. I understand that Sam was fighting for what he believed in, a free country. By fighting for what he believed in, he was repayed by his own death. It just isn't fair.

I agree with you CC, General Putnam was a cruel man. What if the people who stole the cows actually were turning Sam in and hadn't stolen the cows? They still would've died. If he wanted an example, he should've just hung himself. -Henry S

Thank You Henry. I don't think he should have to hang himself. They could have at least send Sam to prison, not death.

He would have probably died in prison anyway.~ Henry S
