Loyalist or Patriot
  • elisagonzalez August 2011
During the Revolutionary War people suffered hard choices. They either had to choose to be loyal to their king who lived thousands of miles away or fight for their independence. In the book, Tim's family is in a hard situation. Tim's father is a Loyalist and his own son, Sam, wants to fight for the Patriots. His father disagrees so Sam runs away. Later, Tim is asked if he agrees with his father about staying loyal to their king. I think it was wise for Tim not to answer. Staying neutral is probably the best choice.

I agree. I think Tim does not like the idea of war. Also he has not really decided whether he is staying loyal to the king or not. He is a smart boy does not answer some questions.

I agree with you because Tim did not know if he should be with his father or brother. He was afraid and confused about his loyalty to his brother and father. It was a hard decision and he did not want to choose sides. Ethan T.

Quite a choice for Tim to make! Does he understand the challenges that face a loyalist or a patriot in the Thirteen Colonies during war? How is he influenced by his Dad's allegiance to the Crown and his brother, Sam's, decision to join with the Patriots? Mr. K

I agree that it's a hard choice to make. How can you choose one over one? I agree with everybody. Tim was smart about not answering any of those questions. He was very confused about who should he agree with. Anika A.

I also think it was smart for him not to answer. I think war is never the answer. Personally, I think Sam should have ran away to live a calm, carefree life away from the war.
